Elsworth and Knapwell from the Air in the 1970s

Elsworth and Knapwell in the 1970s

Last updated: 25/04/2016

The view shows Elsworth and Knapwell from directly above in the surrounding fields.  The boundaries of the fields enclosed in 1803 can be seen as well as traces of the ridge and furrow from the old open fields. Things have moved on from 1971; new units have been built at the Castle Acres industrial estate and Summerlin Farm has now been built.  New houses have been built on the western side of the end of Paddock Row bordering the brook but the eastern side has not yet been built on.  One of the council houses in Brockley Road has been demolished as well, it would be rebuilt as a bungalow later.
